If any of your teeth are stained, chipped or have small gaps, dental veneers are a convenient option for restoring a full smile.
Our local dentists at Karratha Smiles Dental Centre can fit porcelain or composite veneers to aesthetically enhance the look of your teeth.
Who needs dental veneers?
Veneers can be a preferable option to teeth whitening treatment if your teeth have minor damage, small gaps or are resistant to whitening methods.
Dental veneers are thin laminates that can also be a preferable option to dental crowns if your teeth are strong and you want to avoid invasive treatment.
What are the benefits of dental veneers?
Dental veneers are made from porcelain or composite resin and are as strong as real teeth once bonded. Porcelain veneers are long-lasting and resistant to stains, while composite resin veneers are more affordable and quicker to fit.
Compared to other restoration methods such as crowns and bridges, dental veneers:
- are less invasive
- are resistant to stains (porcelain veneers)
- require less alteration to the underlying tooth
- cover the tooth all the way to the gum line.
How are dental veneers fitted?
If you and your dentist decide that dental veneers are right for you, your dentist will remove a small amount of the tooth’s outer layer and roughen the surface to make it easier for the veneer to bond.
If you choose porcelain veneers, we will take an impression of your teeth and create your custom veneers ready for your next visit. Composite veneers do not need to be manufactured ahead of time as the resin is layered directly onto the tooth.
When the veneers are in place, the resin or bonding adhesive is cured using ultraviolet light. If you are having multiple teeth treated, the procedure may require a second visit.
You can eat and drink as normal with your new dental veneers, but you should try to avoid hard foods for a few days following your treatment. Porcelain and composite veneers are as strong as real teeth but they can still be damaged and need to be looked after by following good oral hygiene and keeping up with your regular dental appointments.
