If you have missing teeth or your teeth need to be removed, custom dentures are an efficient way to restore a natural-looking smile without the need for surgery.
If your teeth need replacing, talk to our Karratha dentists about dentures and partial dentures that look and feel just like the real thing.
Who needs dentures?
Dentures can be used to replace individual teeth, but they are more commonly used when multiple teeth have been lost or removed.
Partial dentures fill gaps where two or more teeth are missing. They are supported by the surrounding teeth.
Full dentures replace an entire arch of teeth if all or most of the teeth are missing, are too damaged to repair or are causing pain and other issues. If you still have some teeth remaining, these will need to be extracted before complete dentures can be worn.
If you only need to replace a few teeth, you might be better suited to dental bridges and crowns.
What are the benefits of dentures?
When teeth are absent, full and partial dentures can:
- restore a natural-looking smile
- allow you to eat, drink and speak as normal
- reduce the risk of gum disease and other oral health problems
- support your jaws and face
- prevent your teeth from shifting into gaps (partial dentures).
Dentures are also an affordable and convenient solution if you don’t want to undergo invasive procedures such as dental implants.
How are dentures fitted?
If you decide that dentures are right for you, our dentists will perform any tooth extractions needed and take an impression of your mouth so that your new dentures can be custom made for a perfect fit.
If you are having complete dentures, we will need to extract all remaining teeth first. Depending on how many teeth need to be removed, the procedure can be performed under local or general anaesthesia. It usually takes up to three months for your gums to be completely healed ready for your custom dentures, but we will provide temporary dentures that can be worn during this time.
We will also show you how to insert, remove and clean your dentures and answer any questions you have. Even when you have dentures, it’s still important to follow good oral hygiene to prevent gum disease and other health problems.
