If you have any questions about the treatments we offer at Karratha Smiles Dental Centre, or if you need more information about our dental clinic or how to best look after your oral health, you might find the answers in our frequently asked questions.

If you still have any questions, get in touch with our team and we’ll give you all the information you need.

The more often we see you, the easier it is for our dentists to catch oral health problems at an early stage when they’re easier to treat. That’s why we recommend that you visit our clinic at least every six months for an oral examination and teeth cleaning.

We may recommend that you see us more frequently if you’re at high risk of dental problems, such as if you have diabetes or a family history of oral health issues. Children who still have their baby teeth should visit the dentist at least once a year.

We’re always welcoming to new patients to Karratha Smiles Dental Centre. If it’s your first visit to our clinic, we’ll first ask you questions about your medical history to find out if there’s anything our dentists need to know, and you’ll have the chance to ask any questions.

Your dentist will then perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, jaw and soft tissues in your mouth to look for any symptoms of oral health conditions. We may also take dental x-rays to get a better look at your jaw and teeth roots, and perform an oral cancer screening.

Your dentist will explain your results to you and make recommendations for any treatment that’s needed. Finally, we’ll professionally clean and scale your teeth to remove dental plaque and offer advice to help you improve your oral hygiene.

Whenever possible, we’ll make sure you’re seen by the same practitioner every time you visit our clinic. If your usual dentist isn’t available, you can rest assured that all our dentists and surgeons are locally graduated (UWA) and have extensive experience in providing all the dental treatments we offer.

Baby teeth need to be cared for just like permanent teeth, so it’s important that your child has regular oral examinations once their teeth come through.

Our mission is to make people of all ages feel positively about visiting the dentist, and that begins in childhood. We make sure our dental clinic is a friendly and welcoming place where the whole family feels comfortable.

The type of sedation we use depends on the procedure and on your situation.

For most minimally invasive treatments that only require operating on the teeth, such as extractions, white fillings and root canal treatments, we use local anaesthesia to numb the area of the mouth being treated.

However, if we need to open the gums, or if the surgery is more complex, we use local anaesthesia in combination with general anaesthesia, intravenous (IV) sedation or nitrous oxide.

If you have a fear of needles or dental anxiety, you can request your preferred sedation option for routine procedures. Your dentist will make sure you understand how this will affect your recovery time.

Our dentists are always on call if you have a dental emergency. Whether you have an unexplained toothache or a filling, crown or brace has come loose or been damaged, you should speak to a professional as soon as possible.

If you need to see a dentist outside of our normal operating hours, contact our clinic for advice or to make an emergency appointment.

We specialise in several different treatments to help patients enhance the natural whiteness of their teeth, including dental veneers and teeth whitening.

All these treatments are safe, but their suitability for you depends on a number of factors, including cost, convenience and whether you have dental work such as crowns.

Your dentist will explain what each treatment involves and what you can expect during your consultation.

We are a preferred provider for Bupa, CBHS, HBF and Medibank. We also accept all other Australian health funds.

We are part of Bupa’s Members First network, which means Bupa members are guaranteed to receive between 60% and 100% back on most general dental treatments, among other benefits.

We believe everyone has the right to access professional dental care. That’s why we offer flexible payment plans to make your treatments more affordable for your circumstances.

We understand that plans can change, and we ask that you respect our practitioners’ valuable time and our other patients by letting us know if you won’t be able to make your scheduled appointment. We’ll reschedule your appointment to the next convenient time we have available.
